Jeffrey McMurtery
(Bodhran, Cajon, Bones, Djembe, Voice) cut his musical teeth listening to his parents and siblings playing “Louie Louie” on paper-wrapped combs. “There must be more to life than this,” thought the young Jeff, but it was not until high school that he discovered the ancient and venerable tradition of banging things (together, that is) known as PERCUSSION. Being of a Scottish persuasion, he gravitated towards highland drumming, and was soon an indispensable member of several Pacific NW drum & pipe bands. A chance encounter during high school brought him face-to-face with the fledgling Celtic Nots, and he watched, awestruck, as Nigel Elliott pounded a bodhrán into submission. “Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!” said he, and now, barely a decade later, he reigns supreme as Spokane’s bodhrán player par excellence.
